Overview and Connectivity

The Razer BlackShark V2 and Logitech G Pro X headsets both work with PC, PS4 and PS5. They have maximum functionality on PC, because the USB connection allows them to connect to either Razer or Logitech’s proprietary EQ settings software.

Both devices can be connected with either a 3.5mm cable which is included or by using the USB DAC (digital-to-audio converter). The Pro X also comes with a splitter and an additional 3.5mm cable for phones specifically.

The headphone volume and mute button are on the in-line controls on the Logitech G Pro X, but they are directly on the left earcup of the BlackShark V2.

I bought my Logitech G Pro X for $130, and my Razer BlackShark V2 for $100. Click the Amazon links to see their current pricing.

Black Ops: Cold War with the Pro X.

Black Ops: Cold War with the Pro X.

The Logitech G Pro X has more detailed sound than the BlackShark V2. From a competitive perspective, this makes it a better choice for FPS games like Call of Duty.

That said, there is a downside here, as the Pro X overall makes everything sound far away and there's not a lot of body to the sound. This can be mitigated to an extent by maxing out the bass in the G Hub app, but you'll still never get an immersive experience out of this device.

Black Ops: Cold War with the BlackShark V2.

The BlackShark V2, while not as clear sounding as the Pro X, makes you feel as if you're in the game rather than being a spectator. The highs can get a bit shrill, and the bass is definitely lacking out the box, but it does beat the default tinny sound of the Pro X.

With EQ adjustments, things are a bit different. The Pro X has more potential with bass boosting before distorting. You have to be very with bass boosting on the BlackShark V2. Still, the BlackShark V2 will always make objects sound much closer.

Being able to adjust the volume of each frequency is extremely useful. You can boost the 4 kHz range while playing FPS games or boost the bass and lower the highs while playing more immersive games or listening to music.

It’s all your choice depending on your preference, and it’s really the only reason to consider either of these devices over the HyperX Cloud II or Cloud Alpha. As of this writing, HyperX still doesn’t have any EQ companion software.

Surround sound in Logitech G Hub.

Surround sound is definitely a wash with both of these devices. They don't do anything to counteract the tinny, muffled stereotype that audiophiles give it. There are no tactical advantages here, just a blanket filter that ruins all audio.

Virtual surround sound as a whole has a long way to go before even considering it as a purchasing factor.

Long story short, the Pro X is better for FPS games, but the BlackShark V2 is a better sounding headset for multiple use cases like open world games and music.

Microphone Audio Quality

I wouldn’t classify either of these mics as good, but the Pro X mic is better than the BlackShark V2’s. It responds better to EQ adjustments, and the Logitech G Hub filters such as the de-esser improve the sound quite a bit.

Neither of these mics hold a candle to a cheap USB mic, so if you have the option, I’d ditch these headset mics and use a dedicated one instead.

Comfort and Build Quality

The Logitech G Pro X has a solid aluminum frame with pleather earcups. There are also replacement pads in the box that are made of a soft fabric.

The BlackShark V2 has somewhat rough padding, and there’s only a thin metal frame to hold the rest of the plastic build together.

I find the Logitech G Pro X to be much more sturdy and more comfortable, so it gets the win in this category.

Verdict

For FPS games, I give the advantage to the Logitech G Pro X for its more detailed sound, but for other game genres and general use, the Razer BlackShark V2 is better.

But at this price range, I honestly wouldn't get either of these, and instead the HyperX Cloud II or Cloud Alpha and some free third party EQ software. The sound is just so much better on those.
