Overview

Logitech C922 (left) and Logitech Brio.

Logitech Brio

The Logitech Brio records at a maximum resolution and frame rate of 4K 30 FPS. It can also record at 1080p 60 FPS. Its field of view is 90 degrees.

The video format of the Brio is MJPEG, but at 1080p 30 FPS or lower, the Brio can do YUY2 or NV12 which improves the colors.

A tripod mount is on the bottom (monitor clip must be removed).

I bought my Logitech Brio for $156. Click the Amazon link to see its current pricing.

Logitech C922

The Logitech C922’s maximum resolution and frame rate is 1080p, 30 FPS. It cannot do 4K like the Brio, nor can it do 1080p at 60 FPS. The C922 can do 720p 60 FPS.

The video format of the C922 is MJPEG. Its field of view is 78 degrees. A tripod mount is on the bottom of the device.

I bought my Logitech C922 for $135. Click the Amazon link to see its current pricing.

Image Quality Summary

The Logitech Brio looks better than the C922 in pretty much every way. The image is sharper at 1080p compared to the C922’s 1080p, and of course the 4K blows the C922 away. I wouldn’t bother with the 720p mode on the C922 - it’s way too blurry and pixelated.

Color accuracy also goes to the Brio. The image is slightly more yellow than it should be, but the C922’s colors are completely washed out. There’s not enough orange or brown in my skin tone which is replaced by red. Even increasing the saturation doesn’t add the natural yellow to the wall created by the sunlight.

As for as exposure, the Brio is able to produce a consistently brighter image without having the lightest areas blown out. In addition, the details on dark colors are better.

Autofocus is pretty iffy on both devices, but I prefer to keep that off at all times anyway.

Microphone Audio Samples

Both mics are relatively standard, poor quality webcam mics. I always advice against using webcam microphones, but you can if you’re about that life.

Verdict

The Logitech Brio is easily better than the C922 in pretty much every way, and I recommend it over every other webcam on the market.

If the Brio is out of budget, I recommend getting the C920 instead of the C922. The only difference between those devices is the C922 can do 720p 60 FPS, while the C920 cannot do 60 FPS. But the 720 looks pretty bad on the C922, so I feel there’s no point in using it.
