I’ve reviewed over 50 webcams on this website and on my YouTube channel. Here are the 5 best that record in 4K.

#5 EMEET SmartCam S800

Never heard of the EMEET SmartCam S800? Neither had I before a viewer recommended it to me. However, the image quality speaks for itself.

The high dynamic range (HDR) on this is extremely impressive. If you're overexposed by outdoor lighting, this can even out the shot perfectly. The image is more contrasty than the other webcams on this list, but you can adjust that in the settings.

Daylight + studio lighting.

This webcam’s only real weakness is the microphone didn't work at all on mine, but I mean… it’s a webcam mic.

Specifications

  • Max resolution and frame rate: 4K 30 FPS and 1080p 60 FPS.

  • Optics: f/1.8 aperture. 1/2” sensor. 4.71 mm focal length. 73 degrees FOV.

  • Cable: 60 inches USB-C to A.

Pros

  • Top notch HDR.

  • Internal privacy shutter.

  • Good colors.

Cons

  • Camera gets very hot.

  • Microphone is buggy (maybe caused by the heat?).

#4 Elgato Facecam Pro

The Elgato Facecam Pro was the first webcam to implement 4K 60 FPS recording. To this day, no other 4K webcam can accomplish this - others max out at 30 FPS.

After various updates, the Facecam Pro has improved drastically in terms of colors. The FOV is insanely wide at 90 degrees which would be amazing if the optics provided good bokeh. Unfortunately, the sensor and lens are still just meh.

4K 60 FPS.

The Facecam Pro does not have a built-in microphone, but I won’t list that as a con since webcam microphones are universally terrible anyway.

This webcam probably could be placed #2 on this list for pure performance, but it’s just way too expensive for the image quality you get.

Specifications

  • Max resolution and frame rate: 4K 60 FPS.

  • Optics: f/2 aperture. 1/1.8” sensor. 90 degrees FOV.

  • Cable 72 inch USB-C to C cable. USB 3.0.

Pros

  • 4K 60 FPS footage.

  • Great colors (after the updates).

  • Feature packed software.

Cons

  • No privacy shutter or cover.

  • FOV too wide to not have any bokeh.

#3 Insta360 Link 2C

The Insta360 Link 2C does everything right. While it’s not the absolute best at anything, for its $150 launch price, being a jack of all trades is makes it a steal.

The Link 2C has a built-in privacy shutter, a magnetic monitor mount, excellent software features, and clean image quality in various lighting conditions.

4K 30 FPS, HDR off.

Specifications

  • Maximum resolution and frame rate: 4K 30 FPS. 1080p 60 FPS.

  • Optics: f/1.8 aperture. 1/2” sensor. 79.5 degrees FOV.

  • Cable: 60 inch detachable USB-C to C. USB C to A adapter included.

Pros

  • Great build with an internal privacy shutter and magnetic monitor mount.

  • Impressive sharpness.

  • Excellent price.

Cons

  • Records portrait mode content, but can’t easily be physically rotated.

Alternate variation

If you need full pan-tilt-zoom controls, there is the Insta360 Link 2 (without the C). Same image quality and overall specs, but with PTZ controls.

#2 OBSBOT Meet 2

The OBSBOT Meet 2 is a compact, but powerful webcam that records in both portrait and landscape orientation. It has a magnetic privacy cover and monitor mount. Flipping the webcam on its side automatically activates portrait mode.

Overall, it has slightly better color accuracy than the Insta360 Link 2C (which has a sharper image), and the design is better for making vertical content.

4K 30 FPS, HDR off.

Specifications

  • Maximum resolution and frame rate: 4K 30 FPS and 1080p 60 FPS.

  • Optics: f/1.9 aperture. 1/2” sensor. 79.4 degrees FOV.

  • Cable: 60-inch detachable USB-C to C. USB C to A adapter included.

Pros

  • Excellent colors.

  • Mountable vertically for portrait mode content.

  • Magnetic privacy cover.

Cons

  • Monitor mount not very secure.

Alternate Variations

OBSBOT Tiny 2 (left) and Tiny 2 Lite.

OBSBOT has a huge lineup with a couple of their webcams actually having slightly better optics. None look as good as #1 on this list which is why the Meet 2 is featured over all of them for it’s value.

Anyway, if you need a gimbal to angle your webcam perfectly, consider the OBSBOT Tiny 2, Tiny 2 Lite, or the OBSBOT Tail Air which even can be controlled wirelessly. Most streamers will be completely fine with the Meet 2.

#1 Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra

The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra is still the best webcam on the market. Its optics are so good that the competition isn’t even close.

This only weakness of this webcam is the fisheye lens which creates a barrel effect on the edges of the screen. This can be mitigated with distortion compensation setting in Razer Synapse, but this also slightly reduces the frame rate even on high end PCs.

An effective work around for this is the UnFish Lens filter for OBS.

Specifications

  • Max frame rate and resolution: 4K 30 FPS, 1080p 60 FPS.

  • Optics: Aperture: f/1.7. Sensor: 1/1.2”. Focal length: 8.5 mm. 82 degrees FOV.

  • USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable.

Pros

  • Unmatched optics that produce real bokeh without post processing effects.

  • Built-in privacy shutter and external cover.

Cons

  • Barrel distortion on the edges of the screen.
